At PTE 2023, Shawn Richards, CEO of Ink Innovation, talked to Sven Klawunder, CEO of Flying Media, about how MODI’s identification solutions for non-contact biometrics took Ink technology to a new level:
'It's really been one of the most critical components for us. We've been using MODI for a number of years now. And it got to a point where the largest component in our devices was actually the MODI FaceBar.
Since MODI did some very important design work over the last couple of years, we ended up with a unit that was much smaller. And that has enabled us to shrink the sizes of all of our devices. We have a tagging device, QuickTag Lite, as well as Bag Drop, and they are incredibly small. All thanks to the reduced size of MODI.
It's really been a very critical component for us, and we look forward to doing a lot of business in the coming years.'
Shawn Richards highlighted the value of biometric systems in transforming travel. For decades, people have used boarding passes, paper passports and different methods to re-identify themselves to the airline, immigration and other parties at different touch points.
Before the pandemic, biometrics was seen as adding convenience, but also something that's hugely expensive. Since the pandemic, hiring, training and retaining staff are much more difficult.
The value proposition of biometrics has changed. Now that it is far more commonplace, it's no longer a novelty. What is now important are its total cost of owners, performance, accuracy and security.
