Explore CONNECT New World insights: transforming regional air travel in the Caribbean and improving efficiency with Ink.
The inaugural event of CONNECT New World epitomised the potential for progress when industry leaders unite on a global stage. The conference, held in Santo Domingo from May 30 to June 1, marked a significant milestone, providing a platform for the American and Caribbean airports, airlines, and tourism bodies to discuss global air service.
Our very own Victor Alzate, Chief Product Officer, and Wayne Richards, Regional Director of Sales and Business Development—Caribbean—were on a mission at the event to foster stronger relationships with our valued customers and partners. They came back inspired and renewed in their dedication to providing expert guidance and exceptional support to our clients.

At CONNECT New World, we were thrilled to discover a keen interest in our Ink Touch. Its practicality resonated with airlines from the Caribbean, especially for remote island destinations.
The Ink DCS capabilities are already known in the Caribbean and American aviation industry. Airlines like Sunrise Airways and Wingo use our departure control system to standardise and accelerate processes across their networks. However, the event was an exciting opportunity to discuss other solutions forming part of the unique and comprehensive Ink ecosystem, such as Ink DRS and QuickTag.

Victor and Wayne attended the panel discussion on 'Regional Connectivity: The Emerging Power of Regional Airlines'. The conversation revolved around the pivotal role of regional airlines in maintaining connections, integrating smaller airports into global networks, and developing secondary routes.
Caribbean aviation significantly contributes to the region's economic success, primarily due to the dependence on tourism and geographical constraints. The discussion brought up several challenges the sector faces, such as the lack of coordinated efforts to promote Caribbean tourism and the need for greater investment. Despite these hurdles, the panel spotlighted the potential for incremental growth through new technologies and cohesive regional strategies.
The future of aviation in the Caribbean
The Latin America-Caribbean region showed an impressive recovery trend in 2022, with 624.4 million passengers, reaching 90.9% of the 2019 level. There is a strong indication that this trend will continue, with the region expecting to reach its 2019 passenger levels by late 2023.
This projection points to the urgent need for a fresh approach towards viable, sustainable intra-regional air services. And here is where the Ink ecosystem stands to be a game-changer.
